    Delivery and site access questions

    For a tilt-bed delivery, plan on roughly two and a half to three times the container's length in a straight line, about 60 ft for a 20ft container and 100 ft for a 40ft. You also want around 12 ft of width and 22 ft of overhead clearance, because the bed tilts upward as the container slides off. A forklift or crane placement needs much less length but more height or side room.

    It's the most common and cheapest method. The driver backs up to the spot, tilts the trailer bed, and the container slides off the back as the truck pulls forward. Nothing lifts it, which is why the truck needs a long straight run. It is effectively laying the container down along the ground behind itself. It also means the container ends up roughly where the truck can drive, not anywhere you like.

    It needs to be firm and close to level. A container carries its whole weight on the four corner castings, so those corners are what must be supported, usually on gravel, concrete, or timber blocking. On a slope, shim the low corners so the frame sits true; a twisted container has doors that will not close. On soft or wet ground the risk is the truck, not the box: a loaded delivery vehicle sinks, and many carriers will refuse or reschedule.

    You normally pay for the trip anyway. A failed delivery, dry run, or wasted journey fee is standard, and you still have to arrange a second attempt. That is the whole reason to measure first. If access is genuinely marginal, tell the supplier before booking and ask about a crane placement or a smaller container instead of hoping it works out.
